Madison Police Department announces “Text To Protect” tip line
The Madison Police Department today announced a new “Text to Protect” tip line that gives Madison residents a confidential way to report activity to the police department. The tip line can be used by students as well as residents to report problem activities at schools or in neighborhoods. Information can be texted to 256-604-2345, called in to (256) 604-2345 or e-mailed to texttoprotect@madisonal.gov.
The police department said in a news release today, “although we prefer to speak directly to concerned citizens, we recognize that texting and e-mails are the preferred method of communication. We want to accommodate the way the public wants to communicate with us.” The release goes on to say, “when you contact the tip line, provide as much detail as you can about the date, time, location, descriptions or names of persons involved, and details of the incident. If vehicles are involved, a license plate and car description would be very useful.”
The tip line can be used to notify the police of activity such as: Threats against schools or students, domestic violence, child abuse, community vandalism, wanted persons, drug sales, weapons or rumors of potential crimes. Residents should continue to call 911 for emergencies.
