Bob Jones boys shut out Decatur in soccer opener

The Bob Jones varsity boys soccer team had an 8-0 victory against Decatur in their season opener Tuesday at Madison City Stadium. William Artiga scored four goals to lead the Patriots. Also scoring one goal each were Paul Tassone, Jared Mitchell, Max Isper and Tyler Rist.

The Patriots next play Randolph at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the turf field behind Bob Jones High School.

On Friday Bob Jones Boys Soccer Coach Uwe Spiller announced the 2011 varsity, junior varsity and freshmen teams during a gathering at Bob Jones. Varsity players for the 2011 season are: Jordan Cox, Eric Dong, Tyler Finley, Max Isper, Cody Johnson, Sam Knapp, Michael Mcmanus, Ryan Miller, Johnathan Mitchell, Jared Mitchell, Dilan Patel, Tyler Rist, Max Schmidt, Josh Snoddy, Paul Tassone, Matt VanScoy, Emanuel Waddell and Zach Wroblewski. » Read more on the Patriots soccer site

Uwe Spiller is announced as new head soccer coach for Bob Jones boys

Veteran coach Uwe Spiller, who is a staff coach with Huntsville Futbol Club, will be the new head coach of the Bob Jones Patriots boys soccer team. Spiller has been coaching at all levels of club soccer since 1991. He said he began playing soccer as a 6-year-old in Germany and continues to play as an adult. At a meeting with parents Thursday night Spiller said he believes the Patriots can be in the state final four every year and he hopes to build a soccer dynasty in Madison.

The announcement of Spiller as head coach was made on Tuesday by Principal Robby Parker to students in the morning and before a meeting of parents in the evening. Soccer tryouts for this year’s freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams had been put on hold while the search was underway for a coach, but Spiller said he hopes to hold tryouts before Thanksgiving.

Hogan Family YMCA to open in Madison on Nov. 8

Bob Jones summer sports camps schedule

Bob Jones High School is offering summer sports camps beginning in early June. The camps give young athletes a chance to receive special sports instruction and to learn the coaching methods of their potential future coaches. The Patriot Camp prices range from $20 to $65 and include a t-shirt. Payment is due two weeks prior to the beginning of each camp.
