The Madison Police Department is investigating a number of residential burglaries within the city where offenders have targeted residences that appear to be unoccupied.A department news release says, “Offenders have attempted to verify that residents are away from home by ringing doorbells an excessive number of times before going to the rear of the home where they have forced entry by kicking in the back door.
“Residents are encouraged to be aware of any unusual activity in their neighborhood to include persons and vehicles that appear to be out of place or present for an unusually extended period of time. The Madison Police Department also suggests that residents verify that they know the person knocking or ringing the doorbell before opening the door to them.”
